Innovation happens when we think outside the box. That’s why we at Littlepinkmaker have spent the past year developing , creating and hosting workshops around biomaterials and what the future of materials could be. 

As part of this year’s Distributed design market platform competition we were one of the final 10 selected ideas to shape and create their product. 

To be considered for the RESPONSIBLE Design Market our project must reflect at least one of the following principles,

  • Takes principles of circular economy into account (i.e. local production, smart manufacturing, responsible materials, product life cycle and afterlife, etc.)

  • Takes principles of distributed design into account (i.e. open source, transparency, allows for adaptation and/or customization, etc.)

  • Takes social and cultural challenges and human wellbeing into consideration, both that of the end-user and potential co-producers (i.e. socioeconomic business models, regenerative systems, etc.)

Which is why we created MaterialeX to encompass all of these targets , as well as aid co-creative ideas of futuristic materials.Whilst also engaging in Science, art and technology to create interdisciplinary results.We believe that science should be done anywhere and anytime , using equipment found all around you.

MaterialeX stays true to this value by offering 10 recipes , made using basic ingredients and items from a pharmacy , together with local waste streams to shape the next generation of Biomaterials, The kit also teaches basic chemistry , DIYbio and encourages a talk about eco-innovation whilst being playful and hands on. 

Our kit is locally made here in Copenhagen, using co-creative makerspace as a source of inspiration.We make everything by hand from our box that is made from a mixture of FSC standard 3mm birch ply, down to the material samples that come ready for you to explore. 

Everything about the Kit is either biodegradable or bio-compostable.Whilst also being able to be reused or even shredded up to make a whole new biomaterial.The choice is yours, Each kit contains 10 recipes that have been tried & tested in a community bio lab here in Copenhagen. Along with being created , poured, molded and laser cut at workshops across the EU and South america. 

Along with the recipes are 10 small samples which is perfect for those curious , as well as a stamp to create textured effects and a mold to shape the material. Our boxes also have a QR code for our soon to be released platform enabling a cross platform of material makers and innovators to connect and share/develop new recipes together. Whilst also inspiring one another to make, create and think in a new style.

We at littlepinkmaker are self taught scientist’s - We’ve learnt from some of the best. We have a saying at MIT “science is hard but people are harder” which is why we have made this kit accessible for all.
